It's been a really long time since ive written anything. Lots of reasons for that, but mainly it's because I read all of these awesome blogs every day and don't think my writing will measure up. But anyway... here it is, my next post. I'm going to try my darndest to get this blog a'movin and a'shakin, and then one day maybe someone like me will happen by and think its interesting.
Anyway, its a small start, but here i am.

Venting... and it hasn't even been a month!
I have always heard that the stuff you learn in your education classes is not always practical once you are in the classroom. I really do think that my education so far has been top notch, but the past month of being an art teacher has shown me that the saying is true - most of the stuff I have learned is not really practical.
I wish I was bringing a world of whimsy to youngsters, but sometimes I feel like most of my time is spent trying to remind students to write their names on their work, or trying to get students to stop talking - or to stop screaming! I learned in college about the different ways to get special need students to join in, but I feel like when there are 23 other students in the room who also have questions, I never get to spend that extra time with the students who may need help the most.
One of my professors has suggested, on numerous occasions, that it would be wise to offer a special helper job to a student who is a behavior problem, or has a lot of energy. In my class, the helpers help to hand out materials. I usually end up picking the students who I know are well behaved and on top of things. I think I once picked one of the poorly behaved students, to give them a chance - according to my professor, this sense of responsibility will give them more of a reason to behave and try to impress me - well the materials didnt get passed out because half way around the room the kid started running around, got sidetracked talking to friends and started goofing off. I'm sorry, but with 40 minutes a week, 10 of them spent on name-writing and directions and 5 spent on clean-up, I dont have time for a student to start a game of tag while handing out pencils.
I think most of my complaints are stemming from my inexperience, but I dont think they are less valid. They are things I'm struggling with none the less.
More later, I have to go get a bandaid - my latest papercut (right hand ring finger) is killing me!!!

My very first post...
Well, I've finally created a blog. I've been toying with the idea for some time now, not sure if it was for me, but here it is - Daily Papercuts. So... if anyone is reading this - Welcome
